Topological singularities in periodic media
Résumé
I describe the emergence of topological singularities for a Ginzburg-Landau model of parameter epsilon in an inhomogeneous medium of periodicity delta, computing the vortex energy as epsilon and delta tend to zero. In a sense we always have a separation-of-scale effect : there exists a parameter lambda (explicitly computed and depending on the asymptotic mutual behaviour of delta and epsilon) such that at scales less than epsilon^lambda we first have a concentration process around some vortices whose location is subsequently optimized, while for scales larger than epsilon^lambda the concentration process takes place after homogenization. The two processes both contribute to the vortex energy.
