Machine learning and numerical analysis
Résumé
The success of neural network-based machine learning has opened up a broad spectrum of new opportunities in numerical analysis and scientific computing. This talk will give an overview of :
(1) how machine learning can be used to attack some of the most difficult problems in scientific computing,
and
(2) how one can build a mathematical theory of machine learning from the viewpoint of (high-dimensional) numerical analysis.
