Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche (Industrial Agreements for Training through Research)
An industrial convention for training through research involves three partners :
  • a company, which entrusts research work to a Ph.D. student as a doctoral thesis subject ;
  • a university laboratory, which provides scientific guidance for the Ph.D. student ;
  • a Ph.D. student with a degree equivalent to a master.

The company either offers the Ph.D. student a permanent contract or a fixed-term 3 year contract. It signs with the laboratory a cooperation contract specifying research progress conditions and the ownership clauses of the results obtained by the Ph.D. student.
The Association Nationale de la Recherche et de la Technologie (ANRT) manages the industrial convention for training through research and offers a subsidy to the company on behalf of the French ministry in charge of the research. For example, for an annual gross salary of € 23,484, in 2009, the annual grant amounted to € 14,000. (For more information, download the brochure)
